The video “laundrygarden” is incorporated in the selection of DANSCAMDANSE 2009. You can view the complete selection at danscamdanse.be.
Featuring Ayco (playing and dancing in our garden) and me (filming and hanging laundry). It’s one of my observations around the house. In between the hanging I shot some footage to make some kind of laundry-stop-motion clip. Ayco started to dance, without any music playing.
While editing the video we tried the trixiesong as audio to guide the images. The track supports the chill atmosphere of that summer afternoon.
We played the performance ‘white out’ in Campo Nieuwpoort in Gent (B). Lots of fabric, lots of stitching, lots of wires & cables, lots of camera’s, lots of speakers…
And still, it was a very close & intimate experience; both for public and ourselves.
Also lots of work to be done manually, so Naomi gathered all of her friends to finish the objects and scenery’s. L’onion fait la farce: we made it for the premiere..
With my sounds I tried to co-build a world in which Naomi can play, imagine and manipulate things live on stage.
This environment is very close to what we want to do for an audience & ourselves. This first performance is a starting point. We will develop it later in 2010.
..we’ve been quite busy in between cooking, cleaning the floor and reading bedtime-stories
_ Boomfanfare release
With the boomfanfare we’ve recorded 7 songs for a EP/Cd called ‘parachut’. Karel De Backer did the recording, mixing and mastering. It will be available in june 2009.
white Out
I joined forces with Naomi Kerkhove for her graduating project. It’ll be a performance based upon her drawings- that are actually stitched on canvas. At this stage, I’m preparing the soundtrack with new songs, bruitages and collages.
C-TOUR
Nu-architects from Ghent are designing a parcours in the old mine of Winterslag, Genk. It ‘ll be a permanent exhibition where the public can experience what it must have been ‘working underground’. Evoking and exploring this atmosphere; that’s what it’s about.
It involves a lot of sound-installations, and that’s where I come in. We’re preparing the whole thing now. It ‘ll be a big and exciting project with many, many challenges.
Cleaning up the attick, I stumbled upon these pictures. Back in 1997, we (fellow students architecture) built this fortress in Cap Gris Nez (Fr). We challenged the sea to destroy it. We lost.
Next sunday, we’re gonna have our fifth hotdogski. It’s a url-VJ project that we developped as a result of winning the ‘kunst in de buurt‘ contest in Ghent. As you can see very well on the pictures at the hotdogski blog, our aim is to gather people around our hotdog-stand. We’re mixing online images and sound into a performance-stream. It’s fun and it’s tasty.. From a social point of view, it became a unique meeting point in the neighbourhood, the ’sint Bernadettewijk’ in Ghent.
In the developing phase, I focused on the design of the stands. Each one is basically a big flightcase that you transform into a hotdog/VJ/bar booth. The guys from pouliefolle, and especially Bas, were a big help in constructing the ensemble.
The boys from fisheye asked me to do the sound-design of a TV-commercial. Until now,it was mainly existing LIH-tracks that were being used for commercial purposes. (for instance: ‘interfaced‘ has been the promo-theme for Vooruit arts centre for a two years..) This time the job covered a tune, a voice-over and lots of comic sound effects.
Since a while I’m a member of the boomfanfare. Yep, an orchestra that plays in trees. Originally it was a fanfare playing up-tempo balkan/folky music, originated by Cirq years ago. For our current set ‘parachute’, we’ve made new material containing more jazz and rock influences. Together with Dave, I bring in the weirdness: crazy samples, tweeked sounds & bleeps, freaky synths, … One of the fine things in this project is that you can write a song for this unusual combination of instruments. I wrote one of the songs we play in our set and hope to compose some more in the near future..
